Newberry Arts Center

Work Description: This project involved the comprehensive renovation of a 1950s building into a modern Arts Center. The building, originally a Winn-Dixie in the 1950s and 1960s and later expanded to serve as the Newberry Observer newspaper office, underwent a extensive renovation. The project required fully gutting the interior, including the removal of all existing electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, as well as stripping exterior metal paneling and plywood to reveal the building’s original arch. New windows and doors were added on all sides, and the existing concrete floor was saw-cut to accommodate new utilities, then ground down and finished with two coats of epoxy. Improvements included a new TPO roof, gutters, and downspouts; metal stud framing for new interior walls; all-new electrical, plumbing, and fixtures; and the installation of seven new HVAC units with complete ductwork. Exterior and site upgrades featured a new brick patio, canopy, brick planters, and an ADA-compliant ramp, along with four courtyard patios enclosed with brick knee walls and aluminum fencing. Additional enhancements included new storefront windows and doors, EIFS accents at the front façade and loading dock, new casework throughout, upgraded garage doors at the loading dock, new concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, fresh paving in the parking lot, and updated landscaping at the front of the building.
