SOF Dining Facility - Fort Bragg

Work Description: SOF Dining Facility was designed to provide the “customers” a place to eat, relax, and enjoy time away from their work locations in the adjacent facilities. This project included construction of a 5,000 SG single story Dining Facility to replace a 1,500 SF general purpose eatery. Complete demo and removal of existing structure included abatement of hazardous materials and recycling efforts for reusable materials under the LEEDs Program. Existing trees and shrubs were removed since they fell within the new building footprint. Additional obstacles included underground mechanicals, (plumbing, electrical and communication lines) overhead transmission lines, small storage building and adjacent facilities and parking. The facility can seat up to 150 personnel with an additional “bistro” type seating under the attached exterior canopy. The building areas consists of dining, serving, food preparation/cooking, food storage, custodial, management office, latrines and communications areas inside. Exterior access of walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer and mechanical/electrical areas complete the building. The floors showcase 18”x18” porcelain tile in shades similar to the varying tomes found in natural slate. The thru-body of the porcelain will ensure that the tile will look new for years to come. The kitchen floor tile has a high slip coefficient that can handle heavy weight beating loads from equipment without cracking. The walls host a combination of materials including paint, tile wainscot, mosaic tile accents, solid surface wainscot cap and rich color wood toned accents. The tile wainscot will serve two purposes 1) as highly durable wall finish that can withstand heavy abuse and easily cleaned; 2) a finish with high aesthetic impact. The wainscot will be capped with a scratch resistant non chipping solid surface, to handle the everyday wear and tear of the occupants/customers. Well thought out placement of mosaic tile at backsplashes in public service areas and restrooms bring character to the space for minimal cost. All casework will have solid surface tops, front and side panels, coordinating with the wainscot cap detail. The 24”x24” soft colored ceiling tile creates a rich interior design and will serve as an acoustical buffer as well as an area of visual interest.
